One of the highlights of my life was Trilogy Tuesday, the roots of which formed in 1968.

I was introduced by a friend to J. R. R. Tokein's, "Lord of the Rings". I love the Trilogy and have read it many times over the course of my life. It is without a doubt my favorite fiction. I looked with excitement to animated versions of the the Trilogy, all to my disappointment. When Peter Jackson announced his upcoming movie a kernal of hope emerged that a presentation worthy of the orginal masterpiece would at last be aired.

Our entire family (7 of us) went to Fellowship of the Ring on Christmas eve, 2001.  I loved it! It was all I hoped it could be. In December 2002 our family all went to Two Towers. Agian, I loved it.

I looked forward to the release of Return of the King. I was most excited to learn that in Salt Lake City, Jordan Commons would be one of 99 theaters presenting the Extended Versions of Fellowship of the Ring and Two Towers just before showing Return of the King. At 53 years of age, I slept on an air matress, on the cement in the October air to get tickets for what became known as Trilogy Tuesday. We were some of the lucky few to obain tickets for this great event.

Trilogy Tuesday was upon us. Having tickets did not constitute having a good seat. So in the cold and snow of a Utah winter some stout Tolkein fans lined up the morning of December 15, 2003. They stayed through the day and spent a night outside the theater to get the best seats. Unfortunately I was ill with pneumonia. My daughter and other friends kept our place in the cold. I assisted by providing hot chocolate to the group and renting a propane heater to help keep them warm.

Although I was snug in a warm bed over night, I awoke at 5 AM freezing to death. All I could think about was my daugher out int he cold night air. I put on my clothes and went to the theater. The group was lined up at the theater doors by 6 AM. At 11 AM we were seated and for the next 18 hours we reveled in Lord of the Rings. It was the greatest movie event of my life and I don't anticipate a movie experience in the future of  equal stature let along surpass Trilogy Tuesday.
